e-Warranty Terms & Conditions

  1. The online form you are submitting is only an application form for warranty service for your purchase (“e-Warranty”). This is NOT a certificate for or record of, and does not in itself entitle you to, the e-Warranty or any other warranty service. You must complete all required fields of the form, and (if you are not already one) sign up to be a My Sony member at the My Sony website at www.sony.com.sg/mysony or such replacement or successor website and/or URL as Sony may determine from time to time (“Website”).

  2. You must apply for the e-Warranty within fourteen (14) days from the date of your purchase of the product in question. By way of example only, if you purchase a product for which the e-Warranty is applicable and available on 1 January 2009, then you must apply for the e-Warranty by 2359 hours on 15 Jan 2009 at the very latest.

  3. The e-Warranty is only applicable to and available for Sony consumer audio and video products and the VAIO range of products that are purchased in Singapore. It is not applicable to or available for broadcast and professional products, CRT monitors, Playstation or any other products as Sony may prescribe from time to time.

  4. The e-Warranty is only applicable and available to individual residents in Singapore who have purchased the product(s) for non-commercial use and/or purchased the product(s) not for the benefit or on behalf or use of any company, business and/or society.

  5. The e-Warranty is valid only (i) after Sony has verified the details in the online application form submitted by you, AND (ii) upon Sony sending to you an email setting out the details of your purchase of the Sony product (including the model and serial number, and the warranty registration number of the e-Warranty (if any)) and confirming the validity of the e-Warranty. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary anywhere, Sony will in its sole discretion decide whether your application for the e-Warranty is valid and/or whether to accept such application, and you hereby agree to abide by and irrevocably waive any right to challenge or dispute Sony's decision in this regard.

  6. In the event that your application for the e-Warranty was not valid or Sony rejects such application for any reason whatsoever, you will not be entitled to the e-Warranty. Sony may but is not obliged to send you an email informing you of such invalidity or rejection, which e-mail may but is not required to set out Sony s reason(s).

  7. The e-Warranty shall commence on the date of your purchase of the Sony Product, and will expire upon the end of the warranty period stipulated on the Website.

  8. Sony may, at any time (whether before or after the e-Warranty becomes valid) require you to produce proof of purchase, whether for approving your application for the e-Warranty, to obtain warranty service under the e-Warranty, or any other purpose. In such event, the e-Warranty shall be conditional upon you sending or faxing to Sony a copy of your original purchase receipt.

  9. Under the e-Warranty, Sony warrants the Sony product against defects in MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP, on the following terms and conditions:

    1. The e-Warranty is valid only if the serial number on the product is not altered, defaced, removed or otherwise tampered in any way.

    2. The e-Warranty excludes and does not cover any damage, loss, malfunction, defect or other issue arising from or related to
      1. act of God,
      2. negligence,
      3. accident,
      4. corrosion,
      5. unauthorized modification,
      6. repair by any person not authorised and approved by Sony,
      7. abuse or misuse,
      8. lack of or improper maintenance or care,
      9. inappropriate or improper installation, set-up, voltage connection or use,
      10. signal reception or tuning of channels or stations,
      11. the finish or exterior of the product, (xii) any consumables (e.g.. batteries, tapes etc.) or software supplied with the product, and/or
      12. use of the product with another product, accessory or software.

    3. Sony is not liable for any indirect, special, incidental, punitive, exemplary, consequential or economic damage or loss (including loss of profits, use, anticipated savings, goodwill or business opportunities and loss or deletion of or modification to data, software or information) arising from or related to the e-Warranty (including Sony’s services under it). Sony’s liability under or in relation to the e-Warranty (including Sony s services under it) is limited to the cost of replacing the product with the same or an equivalent product, or of repairing the product, whichever is lower.

    4. Sony may use new and/or reconditioned parts in providing warranty service. Sony will own all parts removed from the product.

    5. (e)If you request Sony, and Sony agrees, to provide any repair services outside the scope of the e-Warranty, you shall pay Sony service and transportation fees, and the costs of any replacement parts used, at such rates as Sony may determine in its sole discretion.

    6. Sony shall provide on-site service under the e-Warranty for such products as it determines in its sole discretion. Where Sony provides on-site warranty service, it is limited only to terrestrial mainland Singapore and Sentosa, and does not extend to any other island or any ship or boat. Otherwise, you shall send the product to the Sony Service Reception or (where applicable to that product) a Sony Authorised Service Collection Centre.

    7. Where Sony provides on-site warranty service, it is only obliged to perform work and services within the scope of the e-Warranty. Sony is not obliged to perform any other work or services, including but not limited to the removal of the product from any cabinet or casing in which it is housed. For the avoidance of doubt, Sony is not obliged to perform any work (e.g. installation or dismantling) on any product not at ground level, such as products placed or fixed at an elevated height.

    8. The period of the e-Warranty period will not be extended by any servicing done on the product.

    9. Where your product is a VAIO product or related accessory, the e-Warranty is limited to the hardware components only. You are responsible for backing up all contents (including data and software) of the product, and removing any hardware and software not warranted by Sony, before requesting for warranty service. Sony may reformat the hard disk and/or return the product with the configuration as originally purchased (subject to availability of software).

  10. Please keep your ORIGINAL PURCHASE RECEIPT and present it for verification when required.

  11. The Warranty is non-transferable, and none of the rights or obligations under these Terms and Conditions may be assigned or transferred. A person who is not an applicant for the Warranty shall have no rights under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act (Cap 53B) to enforce any terms of this Warranty.
